Dear Sister,
My name is Martha and I am the caretaker of the sacred Grandmother Moon Pipe. For those of you that do not know what a sacred pipe is, here are two links you can follow to read how the pipe came to the People. One is Cherokee and the other is Lakota. Each tradition has their own story in regards to the sacred pipe. Please be sure to read these first so that you can better understand what I will be explaining in the next paragraph. Another excellent book to read is “The Way of the Sacred Pipe” by James Medicine Tree, which can be bought on Amazon.

The Grandmother Moon Pipe is special because it was created specifically for women on their moontime (menstrual cycle). In most cultures and cases, women on their menses are not to be near any sacred object as we are MOST powerful during this time because we are most like the Creator. Our moontime is a powerfully sacred ceremony in and of itself and tends to over power any other ceremony. The Grandmother Moon Pipe was specifically created to work with us during our moontime in order to enhance our prayers.
Jim Tree is the builder of this pipe and his grandmother, Lilly Windrider, asked him to carve it before she passed. She now walks with this pipe in Spirit and guides the women who sit in ceremony with it. The pipe has been awake for about 13 years now and has traveled to various women who have been caretakers of it. I am now responsible for making it available to as many women as possible.
In order to make sure that this happens, I set up an online women’s circle at the beginning of the pandemic. We have been meeting on Zoom every month on the Saturday closest to the full moon. There are women from all over the world that join us in sacred space as we share what is on our hearts and then pray together.
It is a beautiful, strong, and gentle ceremony that has helped so many of us in many different ways. Any woman is welcome and we look forward to meeting you!
In Love and Light,
Martha
P.S. Please abstain from any drugs or alcohol consumption 24 hours before any sacred ceremony in order to receive the most benefit and out of respect for the Native American culture.
